Alexis Garmey Chardon is driven by a deep sense of justice, and she is not afraid to take powerful adversaries to trial — and through appeal — to get it. Having started her legal career defending corporations, Ali now uses the insights she gained as a defense attorney to help injured people get the justice they deserve. Ali is proud to fight alongside the skilled, aggressive, and compassionate attorneys and staff at Garmey Law to get her clients the help they need.

Ali represents injured plaintiffs in personal injury, civil rights, medical malpractice, employment, and products liability cases. She is licensed in Maine and admitted in the District of Maine and the First Circuit, as well as state and federal courts in Illinois, where she has regularly practiced in the Circuit Court of Cook County and federal courtrooms all over the state. Alongside her colleagues at Garmey Law, Ali has helped to secure millions of dollars for injured clients, and has also successfully briefed and argued an appeal before the federal First Circuit Court of Appeals, obtaining for her client a reversal of the trial court’s decision and the right to bring her employment discrimination case to a jury. Recently, Ali secured a $700,000 verdict against a school district on behalf of three young women who had been groped by a security guard at their high school. In that case, the defense’s highest offer before trial was only $60,000. She also settled a medical malpractice and Civil Rights lawsuit on behalf of an incarcerated prisoner involving failure to diagnose the prisoner’s spinal epidural abscess for $1.2 million.

Ali currently serves as the Chair of the Women’s Section of the Maine Bar Association. She has been recognized by SuperLawyers, National Trial Lawyers, and other organizations. She received her undergraduate degree from Northwestern University, where she studied creative writing and was the Commodore of the sailing team, and her law degree from Northwestern University School of Law, where competed for the mock trial team and won a national mock trial competition. Following a clerkship with Judge Kermit Lipez of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, Ali practiced commercial litigation for Fortune 500 companies at a top-tier firm in Chicago for several years, and later founded her own civil rights practice there.

Ali likes to spend her free time enjoying the great outdoors with her fearless kids or sitting around a campfire. Ali feels incredibly lucky to call Terry Garmey “Boss” during the week and “Dad” on the weekends. She speaks French and loves it when her work gives her the opportunity to speak it with clients or witnesses.

Having checked two boxes on her Miss Rumphius List (seeing faraway places and coming back home to live by the sea), Ali is still contemplating the Lupine Lady’s final challenge: how she can make the world a more beautiful place.
